A practical integration discovery guide
Move from a business question to a well-defined integration, step by step.
Integration at a glance
Four steps from question to go-live.
- Step 01
Map the process
Initiating event, source of truth, actors and expected result.
- Step 02
Set the boundaries
Classify data and decide who can submit, read, amend or revoke.
- Step 03
Plan for failure
Duplicates, ordering, timeouts and a reconciliation owner.
- Step 04
Confirm go-live
Environments, security, approvals and a support route.
1. Map the process and ownership
Write down the initiating event, source of truth, authorized actors and expected result. Identify every point where another organization must be trusted. Assign responsibility for source evidence, corrections and disputes before choosing a ledger or interface technology.
2. Define data and authorization boundaries
Classify fields as public, restricted or personal; minimize what crosses each boundary. Specify stable identifiers, schema versions and retention decisions for review. Determine who can submit, read, amend or revoke a record without assuming any particular authentication mechanism exists.
3. Agree failure and reconciliation behavior
Plan for duplicate delivery, out-of-order events, timeouts and partial completion. Define idempotency, retry limits and a reconciliation owner, and agree a test matrix with expected outcomes before connecting production data.
4. Require evidence before implementation
Confirm environment details, security responsibilities, legal approvals and the support route. A go-live review records prerequisites and acceptance results before production traffic is enabled.
FAQ
Questions, answered
What should an initial technical brief include?
Include the business problem, participating organizations, record types, data classification, event volumes as requirements, exceptions and measurable acceptance criteria. Exclude production secrets and unnecessary personal data.
Is there a checklist to take into a review?
Yes. The authored English and Arabic integration-checklist text downloads organize these discovery questions. They are planning aids, not a statement that any interface or environment is available.
